Details National Stadium, Kabul

The National stadium is located in the capital city Kabul, in East Afghanistan, on the Kabul River. The stadium is entirely terraced and three stands were uncovered. There is a concerete running track surrounding the pitch and the stadium was funded with help from the international community at the end of the Afghanistan Cival War.

The stadium is used for national sporting events and music concerts.

Afghanistan's national sport, Buzkashi is also played at the National stadium. Buzkashi involves two teams of ten mounted horsemen who have to move a 'headless calf'weighing approximately 60Kg from the centre of the field to a flag at their designated end of the field and drop the calf back in the centre circle to score one or two points respectively. The use of knives and chans in the sport were banned by the Afgan olympic comittee in 1947. Horsemen can only use whips on the horses, although this is often not the case. And by the way, this sport does actually exist!
